If I were to hire, these are the things I'd do:
- Typing speed test - in a digital workplace writing documentation and
communicating quickly is a must
- Spelling test - technology requires attention to detail and
differentiating things that may be similar
- Various cognitive benchmarks - Human Benchmark
- What do you consider good writing or expert opinion? What is a good or bad app? Why?
- Just list a bunch of projects/PDF/portfolio. Proof of work over
interviewing skills.
Things I would not do:
- One-way digital interviews - shows you don't respect the candidate
- Long application forms where you have to re-write what's on your resume
- Over-indexing on things such as brands - this is outsourcing your
heuristics for talent
Values important to me in a workplace:
- Understanding and knowledge over the appearances of it
- People who are constantly reading and learning the real meaning of what it
is they do
- Humble when unfamiliar with things but decisive otherwise
- Ability to ask questions about processes in the company to understand the
truth or entertain different perspectives without people becoming
defensive/angry because it contradicts their static worldview
- Quality design
- Focusing on maintaing high quality tools and craftsmanship
- Personal freedom and creativity free from manager-boss style
- Not playing childlike small-society games
